In 2011, the Beijing Capital Museum reached an agreement to exchange exhibitions with the Taipei Museum of World Religions. In November of the same year, it held the exhibition “An Avatamsaka World of Wisdom: Buddhist Art from the Beijing Capital Museum” at the Taipei Museum of World Religion as the latter marked its 10th anniversary.

In 2012, the Taipei Museum of World Religions presented “Religious Art and Culture from the Taipei Museum of World Religions” at the Capital Museum, featuring religious culture and art. With exhibition as the bridge, the two Museums joined hands not only in promoting exchange among the world of culture, art, and museums, but to also advance cross-strait communication.

The exhibition features two parts:

The first part “An Overview of World Religions” introduces the origins of religions and their distributions around the world. NFC (Near Field Communication) enables visitors to download pictures and explanations of major display items on their cell-phone for free and to enjoy them at will.

The second part “Culture and Art of the Major World Religions” introduces the characteristics, teachings and core values of the seven major world religions (Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism, Hinduism, Shinto, Judaism) through religious artifacts, literary descriptions, and multi-media facilities. It ends with a film about different wedding ceremonies which shows the influence of religion on the conduct of social life.

All of the 104 religious artifacts are treasures from the Taipei Museum collection which was built up over the years through donations by patrons and acquisitions in various ways. Many of the artifacts have stories behind them. With these exquisite religious artifacts, the rich explanatory content and intriguing multi-media displaying device, the exhibition creates an experience-oriented atmosphere which guides its visitors towards greater knowledge and self-exploration.
