Summit at the UN to Mark the New Millennium

The Millennium World Peace Summit
of Religious and Spiritual Leaders held at the United Nations in 2000 was
the first time religious leaders from around the world had been assembled
in one place and had offered prayers together for world peace. Dharma Master
Hsin Tao was the only Taiwanese religious leader to present a prayer at
the summit.
In Dharma Master Hsin Tao¡¦s speech to the World Peace Summit, he used examples
from his own life experiences to discuss the themes of ¡§Tolerance and Respect.¡¨
He also talked about the process of preparing the MWR as an example of concrete
ways in which to transform conflict.
The Religious Peace Organization of the UN is now a permanent organization
under the umbrella of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO). It plays a role in mediating religious conflict on
the world stage, and is the only organization within the United Nations
dedicated to attaining world peace through religious education.
