ˇiJuly 4th Barcelonaˇj The 19th International Council of Museums (ICOM) took place over six days starting on July 1st in Barcelona, Spain. Meeting for the first time in the new century, leaders of the museum field from around the world discussed trends for museums in the 21st century and changes in the market place. On July 5th [Taiwan time], MWR CEO, Master Liaoyi lectured on ˇ§Museums in the Market Place.ˇ¨ She said that the special features of the Museum of World Religions include its being the only museum of its kind dedicated to presenting the religions of the world; its use of the most modern technologies and multimedia to present religious traditions and cultures, and thirdly, that its funding came from the small contributions of some 300,000 Buddhist followers over a period of ten years. It is a true museum of the people. The short ten-minute speech and film introducing the Museum of World Religions was received with enthusiastic support, demonstrating how museums of the new century meet the needs of the whole of humanity. |
