Launch of the Museum of World Religions --- Report on the Global Conference on the Preservation of Sacred Sites

The Global Conference on the Preservation of Sacred Sites, which is part of the launch ceremony of the Museum of World Religions, was held at the International Reception Hall of the Grand Hotel at 3:30 pm on Nov. 9. More than 100 scholars participated in the discussions, on topics ranging from "Relationship between Museums and the Preservation of Cultural and Sacred Sites," "Relationship between Religion and the Preservation of Cultural and Sacred Sites," "Museums and World Religions: a New Cooperative Relationship" etc. The participating scholars diccussed areas such as culture, religion and peace.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Chen Chi-nan, chairman of the National Culture and Arts Foundation and dean of the college of humanities and social science at National Chiao-tung University. Speakers at the ceremony were Master Hsin Tao, founder of the Museum of World Religions, and Bawa Jain, secretary-general of the Millenium Peace Summit. Professor Chen also gave a speech on topics related to culture and sacred sites.
