Former
Thai deputy prime minister Chamlong Srimuang visited the Museum
of World Religions at 4pm on February 16, 2002, accompanied by members
of the Thai Santi Asoke congregation and Venerable Yenting of Taiwan's
Miaokung Monastery. Mr
Srimuang served two terms as mayor of Bangkok before becoming
deputy prime minister. A long-time vegetarian and holder of the
Eight Precepts, Mr Srimuang is also known for donating his full
monthly salaries, and for his clean public image. One of the most
respected politicians in Thailand, Mr Srimuang earned him the
nickname Mr Clean with valiant crackdowns on corruption and crime.
He is a politician practicing politics according to Buddhist principles.
