Echoing the theme of International Museum Day 2019, “Museums as Cultural Hubs: the Future of Tradition”, Museum of World Religions is collaborating with fabric collage artist Ms. Fang-Ying Liao to present contemporary topics through traditional crafts with its launch of The Delights of Dana - Fang-Ying Liao’s Iconic Fabric Collage Art and other educational activities. Focusing on the concept of “not attaching oneself to form and consciousness in Buddha dharma”, she depicts how exquisite yet simple the aesthetics of handicraft are through the freedom and creativity expressed by her art.

Hailing from Ji’an Township in Hualien Country, Fang-Ying Liao was influenced by her father’s metalworking as a child. Upon stumbling onto the materials of cloth collage by chance, she dedicated herself to the craft though she had never received any formal aesthetics training. The exhibition presents her religious beliefs and rich aesthetic sense in more than 40 works of fabric collage depicting Guanyin, Door Gods, Twelve Heavenly Generals, and more. Meanwhile, complemented with clay figures filled with a motherly love, a collective creation space is also organized for viewers to fully participate. Through a level of co-creation, come indulge in this warm, tranquil and colorful exhibition setting.
