本幅為十殿閻王畫之第五殿，描繪殿中審判及刑罰的景象。圖中第五殿森羅王面色鐵青坐於案桌之後，旁有冥吏持簿卷隨侍。案前左右分別站著手持羽扇、高帽吐舌的白無常、以及手持榜牌、矮帽黑面的黑無常，還有兩名手持竹篦的皂役。
此殿描繪了火烤、油炸、燒針穿舌等刑罰，而畫面右上方則是雷公、電母以雷電劈打不孝無義之人。本圖畫風頗為細膩，如森羅王為一般民間所稱的閻羅王，根據民間傳說，即為俗稱「包青天」的宋代清官包拯，因此圖中森羅王呈現鐵青森嚴的容貌，以表現其鐵面無私。圖面下方是「抽腸割心獄」，民間相傳此獄遍佈銅身毒蛇、鐵鑄餓狗，入獄者將遭到狗食人腸、蛇吞人心的刑罰；圖中便把狗、蛇撲咬人身的生動情態詳細刻畫出來。

This picture is about the Fifth Temple of the Ten Temples, depicting the trial and punishment. In the picture, the Shenluo Wang of the Fifth Temple sits sitting behind the desk, with his face looking dark blue. On his sides, there are staff of the Underworld attending with books in their hands. In front of the desk, on his left, is Bai Wuchang (White Impermanence), holding a feather fan and wearing a white top hat, with his tongue sticking out. On the right is Hei Wuchang (Black Impermanence) holding a signboard and wearing a black hat. There are also two guards holding bamboo combs. In this temple, the punishment of burning, deep-frying, and tongue piercing with red hot needles are depicted. On the top right of the picture, Leigong (Thunder god) and Dian Mu (Lighting goddess) are striking people not practicing filial piety.

Also known as the Black and the White Impermanence, they’re in charge of hunting down ghosts, rewarding the virtuous and punishing the wicked. They are the deities of justice.
