Prologue
It began with an encounter across ten thousand miles.
Different religions, different languages,
yet the footsteps were the same.
The monk carried only a heart that listens,
walking between the unknown and devotion.
Within the landscape of faith, robes move with the light, shadows follow each step.
It is the stillness that gives rise to tranquil dwelling, the contemplation that nurtures awareness.
In each step, in each breath, practice unfolds in the present moment.
Not seeking truth from afar,
but within a single thought,
returning inward, the world is in view.
In the Vatican, prayers flow like a river of history.
Stone steps, squares, and crowds whisper in the wind of time.
Robes and vestments walk side by side; monks and priests reflect one another in the morning light.
What we gaze upon is not ritual, nor symbol, but the shifting of light and shadow, the traces the wind leaves on stone.
Through the monk’s eyes, may that instant of stillness remain as a gentle light in memory—
to understand that “Love is our shared truth; Peace is our eternal hope.,”
and thus, “Universal compassion for every life” becomes the path we continue to walk.
May these images from afar meet you in this moment,
and even if you have never stepped through the doors of religion,
may you still feel the serene tenderness and blessing.
Exhibition Origin
Love is our shared truth; Peace is our eternal hope.
From October 25 to November 1, 2025, Venerable Xian Yue Shih, CEO of the World Religions Museum Development Foundation, led an interreligious delegation from Taiwan to the Vatican City, successfully completing a program of religious exchange. During this visit, the delegation attended the “60th Anniversary International Celebration of Interreligious Dialogue” and engaged deeply with a vision of peace grounded in ecological spirituality.
In Rome and the Vatican, monastic robes and liturgical vestments walked side by side; monks and priests encountered one another. Though differing in faith traditions and language, all moved toward the same light—journeying in the name of love and peace.
The works presented in this exhibition originate from the visual notes captured by a monk walking through the Vatican and Rome. Through interwoven light and shadow across sacred architecture, foreign landscapes, and the living texture of daily life, these images reveal the most moving moments as seen through a monk’s eyes.
May these photographs touch the heart, and we sincerely invite your support, so that the path of love and peace may continue forward.
