This statue was made in the 8th year of the Datong reign of the Wei dynasty (542 C.E.). It depicts the Buddha in the “Voluminous Clothes Great Sash” style, sitting cross-legged, his hands adopting the dama mudra (vow-making gesture) and abhaya mudra (fearless gesture). His halo contains eleven small Buddhas, while to either side are the bodhisattvas Manjusri and Vimalakirti above lions. The back bears an inscription and image of the donor, explaining that a Buddhist named Zhao Jing and his family made the statue, and that the Emperor and commoners alike might gain peace and happiness.
