This religious altar originated from Chiapas, Mexico, where there are numerous remnants of the Mayan civilization. When the Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) ceremony is performed, offerings are placed on the altar and the decorative patterns on it reflect the fusion of indigenous and Christian religions.
